- Oriol López Calle (pianist, arranger, composer and general manager)
"Oriol was born in Terrassa, Barcelona, Spain. He began to play the piano when he was 4, taught by his father. At the age of 6 he entered the Professional Music Conservatory of Terrassa, Barcelona, where he began his musical studies. A few years later he began the Professional Grade of Piano that he finished when he was 17. He was awarded with the Award of Honor in the piano speciality. He began a piano post-grade in the same Conservatory after all this.
In the last four years of this grade he studied harmony, composing, arranging and orchestration skills. Oriol arranged his first piece for the school when he was 13. A video of this first arrangement can be found here.
Since then, he has collaborated with many music schools arranging and adapting music of all kinds, but especially classical piano music. The most known score of this kind is the clarinet in Bb and piano arrangement he made from Scheherazade (the original is an orchestral work from Rimsky-Korsakov), as had taken up playing the clarinet at the age of 14. At the age of 16 he worked for a music school in Madrid, arranging piano classics for piano beginners and working on other instrumental scores. Especially succeeding is the actual bestseller “Tristesse for easy piano ”. Then OLC Barcelona Music was founded and he began collaborating as arranger with singers, pianists and jazz bands from all around the world. He's worked with composers and arrangers from the USA, Japan, Colombia, Australia, Israel, Italia, France, England, Georgia, Sweden and Russia. Therefore, the reach of the company doesn't know any limit and musicians interested in sheet music come from any country.
Oriol has also composed some original soundtracks for short films and documentaries. As he began his jazz formation when he was 11, he has also arranged classical music into jazz versions. The bestseller of this section is “Canon in D – Jazz version ” well known on the internet thanks to the video of the score posted on Youtube.
He now works as a composer, arranger and publisher and keeps leading OLC Barcelona Music. Despite his youngness, he seems to be experienced and to have imagination and creativity, but what is even better, he loves music itself.”
